Other meetings: there is usually a monthly meeting of ‘Mission Knit’ for ladies interested in preparing knitwear for distribution by missionaries.
Twice a year, spring and autumn, we host a Saturday meeting for Bible Teaching commencing at 7pm. This is on a fifth Saturday of a month. Watch the Special events space.
Or Lord’s Supper or Communion. All are welcome to this service but it is really for believers and only baptised believers are invited to take part in sharing the bread and wine. There is no prior planning for this meeting and the men lead in worship, hymn singing, Scripture reading as they are led by the Holy Spirit. Following the breaking of bread an offering is taken up and twice a month there is a second offering for, for example, missionary support.
We describe this as ‘teaching gospel’. We know there is a need for a reasoned presentation of the grace of God in providing a Saviour and we offer this gospel with some teaching for the believer. The usual, but not standard, format is hymn, prayer, hymn, reading, hymn, message, hymn, prayer. All are invited.
A half hour of hymn singing and perhaps another feature followed by tea served at tables followed by an address by a visiting speaker. All are welcome.
A period of prayer followed in the winter/spring months, by a conversational Bible Study. For the missionary prayer meeting we occasionally have a live missionary or a rep. for a particular service (as London City Mission, SASRA), sometimes a DVD of a mission field area and sometimes just written reports from various missionaries.
A typical format is hymn, prayer, choruses, message followed by a cup of tea and biscuit. Ladies of all ages welcome. We also have a few well-behaved men (well, someone has to make the tea and wash up!).
